Founded by Canon Thomas Taylor in 1922 in the small ex-mining town of Carfin, Lanarkshire, Scotland and built by local miners, the shrine welcomes tens of thousands of pilgrims from around the world each year. In Pre-Reformation Scotland, July 1st was the Feast of St Serf – The great Scottish Saint know as Apostle of the Ochils. We were fortunate to be allowed rare access to St Serf’s Hermitage caves on the private grounds of the Carmelite Convent of Dysart. The sisters told us all about the wonderful ancient history of the site from Pagan times, to St Serf and the Culdees to the Reformation and eventual return of the Religious orders to the site. Each July 1st these caves would be the centre of much celebration and pageantry and Mass would be said. Here is a little about the life and legend of St Serf!

On Sunday 20th November in Mullingar Cathedral the opening of the Diocesan Inquiry into the cause for Beatification and Canonization of the Servant of God Fr. Willie Doyle SJ began. We attended the opening of the cause and spoke to those present to learn more about Fr Willie Doyle SJ and how the cause will proceed.

A momentous day for the community of Mossend and Bellshill as a statue was unveiled by Liz McNeill and family of the late great Billy McNeill Celtic's greatest ever captain. What a day!

St Therese of Lisieux - Scotland loves you! October 1st is the feast of St Therese of Lisieux. Scotland and her people have held strong devotion to this great French saint before she was even a saint! Her recent relics visit around our nation showed just how much she is loved by Scots. Often heard remarked in the last few weeks was "I feel like St Therese is a Scottish saint" She certainly is loved! St Therese pray for us and pray for Scotland
